I recently wrote a blog on the resurgence of the business district of Southold town. While I was researching the blog, I visited 3 shops on the corner of Main Road and Beckwith; Unique Antique Designs, Coast and White Flower Farmhouse. I so enjoyed my visit to these stores I decided to write separate blogs on each one.

I am starting with Unique Antique Designs. (Check out their Facebook page.) The store is located one store west of Beckwith on Main and is operated by Daryl Malter, who was very inviting and helpful. The store is filled with antiques and vintage items from rustic to elegant. The items are artfully arranged and conveniently categorized. Unlike antique shops with a narrow focus, Daryl tries to find something for everyone. I was impressed with her section of local antiques which not only features items that commemorate the area, but items she specifically found at local estate and yard sales.

In the back the shop there was a section of colorful vintage clothing, something that could ad funky fun to everyone’s life! This section had a rainbow array of many vintage scarves to choose from. There was even a section she called “mantiques,” which included dinner jackets, war memorabilia, tools, ties and musical instruments, amongst other things.

The shop housed all sorts of collectibles and included reclaimed furnishings. She has many more sections and interesting items, but even if you don’t find something you want, just looking around at all the fascinating items makes for an interesting afternoon.  Daryl offers interior design services and can be reached at uniqueantiquedesigns@gmail.com.

Something every North Fork antiques store should have: a local section.

Something interesting for the men: 'Mantiques,' dinner jackets, accessories, military items, tools and the like.
