Welcome to Shorecrest B&B on the North Fork of Long Island!

We were contemplating our next post about all the gardens on the property and around the area when a light bulb clicked. We never formally introduced ourselves. So…Hi! We are Shorecrest Bed & Breakfast an elegant yet modern Victorian B&B located on the North Fork of Long Island. Welcome to paradise.

A little history about our roots: Shorecrest Bed & Breakfast was once the summer home of a wealthy doctor when it was first built in the 1800’s. The elegance and opulence of the Victorian era still live throughout the house and it’s decor (for all you Gatsby lovers). The Inn overlooks the Long Island Sound and has access to two private beaches. The house is a gem on the North fork but the North fork is the gem of Long Island. The North Fork is home to a unique type of culture. The wineries, the farmstands, the beaches, the wharf towns, the history and the fantasy all come together to create this beautiful oasis right outside of the city. It’s only 2 hours from New York City and offers you an experience you wouldn’t think possible so close to NYC. The Farm-to-Table culture is present in many restaurants on the North Fork and the Wineries offer relaxing and entertaining day excursions. If the weather permits, GO SWIMMING!

A look inside Shorecrest Bed & Breakfast:

The Rose Room

Enjoy the comfort and elegance of a queen size canopied four poster bed, a nineteenth century antique armoire, mirrors and dresser, ornate fireplace under 10 foot molded ceilings. Two large windows overlook the garden and water view of the Arshamomoque inlet of Shelter Bay in a park like setting to the South and West. The newly renovated attached bathroom features a 6 foot jacuzzi tub with shower.

The West Room

Three floor to ceiling windows overlook views of the Long Island Sound and spectacular sunsets to the west. The color theme of soft blues and beige, 19 century prints, antique mirrors and furnishings plus fine linens and a top of the line mattress complete the mix of comfort and old world charm. A working fire housed in a vintage style iron stove is a cozy addition for cool nights and a flat screen TV with premium cable and newly renovated bathroom complete the modern amenities our guests expect in a luxury Inn. This room has light curtains, does not have room darkening shades and is the brightest room in the Inn.

The East Room

The Southwest Room

southwestsouthwest2Three floor to ceiling windows offer views to the south of the Arshamomoque inlet through the leaves of ancient maple trees. Sunsets over the Long Island Sound to the West bathe this room in a rosy glow each evening. The decorative theme is the Victorian Traveler in Asia. Wine colored shantung silk drapes, an intricately carved four-poster ‘rice’ bed and an eclectic mix of antique 19C furniture, prints and textiles complete the theme. A flat screen TV, premium cable and newly en suite renovated bathroom complete the modern amenities our guests expect in a luxury Inn.

On the second floor the Silk Road room, with a King bed is the largest we offer. Gold colored embroidered silk drapes frame the spacious floor to ceiling bay window through which you can see the Long Island Sound to the North and garden and woods to the East and South. Walls are painted a soft fern green with coordinating linens that cover the King size sleigh bed. The bathroom is spacious with a shower, large vanity and two floor to ceiling windows overlooking the garden to the East. The Shorecrest Garden, a pleasure to enjoy all season

Shorecrest Bed and Breakfast Pond in June

Past visitors know the gardens here well and can depend on there being something different to see each time they visit. The flower borders are planted with perennials which are planned to flower sequentially. Astilbes are in full bloom now, as the first flowering of the landscape knockout roses and Nepata (Cat mint) is past its prime, and they have been cut back to gather energy for another flowering in a couple of weeks. The white hydrangeas are looking marvelous, the blues that line the front walk should start to bloom soon, and several different varieties of lilies will continue to flower throughout the summer, along with hosta, Rucbeckia or Black Eyed Susan ( of which there are literally thousands in the 25 ft x 200 ft border that lines the road)  Perovskia, Montauk daisies, Sedum and to keep color when the perennials are resting a variety of annuals that continue to flower until frost.

I hope to welcome you for an impromptu tour of this little slice of heaven soon!
