Welcome to Shorecrest B&B on the North Fork of Long Island!

We were contemplating our next post about all the gardens on the property and around the area when a light bulb clicked. We never formally introduced ourselves. So…Hi! We are Shorecrest Bed & Breakfast an elegant yet modern Victorian B&B located on the North Fork of Long Island. Welcome to paradise.

A little history about our roots: Shorecrest Bed & Breakfast was once the summer home of a wealthy doctor when it was first built in the 1800’s. The elegance and opulence of the Victorian era still live throughout the house and it’s decor (for all you Gatsby lovers). The Inn overlooks the Long Island Sound and has access to two private beaches. The house is a gem on the North fork but the North fork is the gem of Long Island. The North Fork is home to a unique type of culture. The wineries, the farmstands, the beaches, the wharf towns, the history and the fantasy all come together to create this beautiful oasis right outside of the city. It’s only 2 hours from New York City and offers you an experience you wouldn’t think possible so close to NYC. The Farm-to-Table culture is present in many restaurants on the North Fork and the Wineries offer relaxing and entertaining day excursions. If the weather permits, GO SWIMMING!

Last Chance to Enjoy Amazing Music at LI Winterfest’s Jazz on the Vine!

Jennifer of Montana Skies pictured at Jamesport Vineyards last Sunday playing the Nocturne for guitar and Cello.

Last weekend I was able to fit in going to a Jazz on the Vine Event! On Sunday I went with some friends to Jamesport Vineyards  to hear Montana Skies,an amazing cello/guitar fusion combo. They did covers by Pink Floyd, the Animals and the Beatles to name a few, with an extremely creative, clever and energetic arrangement. I was intrigued by their music when I posted a clip on this blog last week of the Nocturne, which was written for them by Roberto Di Marino. The soulful beauty of the piece drew me in, and I was so happy to hear it performed live. The setting was intimate, and before and during breaks you were invited to meet the performers who were gracious and informative. We were treated to Jennifer’s performances on a 6 string electric Cello in their rendition of the House of the Rising Sun, which blew our minds. How fortunate I was to be able to listen to such gorgeous music in the beautiful rustic setting of the Jamesport Vineyard while sipping a glass of their delicious Cabernet Franc. If you would like to hear more of their music go to their Youtube channel or order one of their CD’s from their website.

And, because of the snowstorm we had during the first week, this weekend will be the last of the LI Winterfest. So you have one more weekend to take in some great music in some beautiful vineyard settings. Don’t miss this opportunity, because although the vineyards offer music all year long, Jazz on the Vine is a virtual smorgasbord of incredible music.

In most cases, admission prices includes a glass of wine and a chance to win a gift basket of Long Island wines, not to mention an afternoon of great jazz performances.

The term “Jazz” in Jazz on the Vine is used in the loosest of ways and includes traditional, modern and ragtime jazz as well as show tunes and standards from the classic American songbook. Sipping wine and listing to this amazing live music will be the pinnacle of your romantic east end get away.

But best of all… Winterfest coincides with Shorecrest’s Winter Romance getaway package. It’s $475 for a two nights stay and runs through April 2013. It’s good for any room and the package includes:

• A 2 night stay at Shorecrest Bed and Breakfast plus:

• $20 towards dinner for two at one of our favorite restaurants, either the Frisky Oyster, First and South or Noah’s in Greenport

• 2 x $50 gift certificates towards a one hour aromatherapy massage for each guest (non refundable and use optional)

North Fork Spring Brings the Songs of Birds and the Rhythm of Jazz

Crocus push their way up through the patches of snow. Trumpets heralding the arrival of spring on the North Fork.

The sixth week of Jazz on the Vine, the theme 2013 Long Island Winterfest is greeted with signs of Spring on the North Fork. Pools of water from storm induced high tides and spring run off flood the local woods to produce serene vernal ponds just down the lane. Corcus, Hellebore (Lentin Roses) and early spring flowers push up through the snowy remains. And this weekend the songs of the spring birds will be competing with the sounds of the bands, groups and trios that make up this week’s Winterfest.
In most cases, admission prices includes a glass of wine and a chance to win a gift basket of Long Island wines, not to mention an afternoon of great jazz performances. Even though it has been extended after this weekend there is only one weekend left, so make sure you plan on coming out soon or you will miss some amazing music performed in the romantic ambience of our beautiful east end wineries.
The term “Jazz” in Jazz on the Vine is used in the loosest of ways and includes traditional, modern and ragtime jazz as well as show tunes and standards from the classic American songbook.
