Paul Helbig is back on the guitar. Head over to Sherwood House for a little bit of wine and some much needed relaxation.
Tonight’s entry: “Tous les Matins du Monde,” 1991 French film directed by Alain Corneau.
As reviewed by imdb:
“TOUS LES MATINS DU MONDE is a French film directed by Alain Corneau, from a script by Corneau and Pascal Quignard. It stars Jean-Pierre Marielle, Gerard Depardieu, Guillaume Depardieu, Anne Brochet, and Carole Richert. Unrated, includes male and female nudity. In French with English subtitles.
TOUS LES MATINS DU MONDE is as serious, slow-paced, and sadly beautiful as the viola da gamba music that pervades the film. The story of the film concentrates on the conflict between the austere, cenobitic master of the viola da gamba (the ancestor of the modern cello), Monsieur de Sainte-Colombe — whose name is otherwise unknown — and a hack seeking fame and fortune in the court of Louis XIV, Marin Marais. Their personal conflict symbolizes the war between art and commercial success, a subject as relevant today as in the late 17th Century.”

Oktoberfest craft beer paired with a four course German meal served family style, hosted by brewmeister Terrance Daly
The last weekend of summer kicks off the beginning of our fall harvest season, for many locals a favorite time of the year on the North Fork. We at Shorecrest Bed and Breakfast especially love week days on the North Fork during September and October. The weather is mild, we have the beaches and walking trails virtually to ourselves and can always get a reservation in our favorite restaurants.
We wanted to keep our guests informed about some of the new places popping up on the North Fork. The summer season brings the North fork to life. Here are some big updates & upcoming events.
Kontokosta Winery: Kontokosta is Greenport’s first winery and the only winery on the North Fork that is actually on the Sound. You can see the Sound from the tasting room. If you feel so inclined you can even walk to the endge of the bluff and look out onto the beach and the Sound. It is trully a relaxing and beautiful way to drink wine. We are so happy to welcome them to the North Fork. Aside the the view the entire building is made from repurposed materials and runs on wind power!
Shelter Island BBQ @ The Pridwin: Every Wednesday night until Labor Day the Pridwin hosts a BBQ Cookout like no other. They feature live music and an all-you-can-eat cookout menu. You can take the Shelter Island Ferry over or go by boat because they have dock space but it is first come, first serve. If you plan on going just call ahead so there’s enough food for everyone! (631-749-0476)
Moonlight Mondays & Twilight Tuesdays @ Corey Creek Vineyard: It’s a great feeling when you don’t have to leave the vineyard at 5PM or you can actually stop by a vineyard after work. Corey Creek Winery offers two late nights during the week of great food & Live music til’ 9PM. They have a BBQ by Custom Caterers on Monday and a rotating food truck on Tuesdays.
Provisons + Ingredients & The Winemaker’s Studio: This little shop is a must visit located next to The Winemaker’s Studio (also a must visit). Stock up on locally grown foods, meats & cheeses to take home with you. After you’re done stocking up for the summer wander next door to The Winemaker’s Studio by Anthony Nappa Wines and try out some exquisite local wines created by local winemakers & vineyards.

“By late June on the North Fork the strawberry crop is reaching its peak and bursting with flavor. On Father’s Day weekend, at the peak of the strawberry harvest, the Mattituck Lions Club brings the community together for a special weekend of fun and purpose. Whether you’re here year-round, are a seasonal resident or are drawn here by the Festival, you’re in for a wonderful time while raising money for local non-profits.
Dig into the strawberry shortcake, sample the strawberries dipped in chocolate, try the strawberries any way you like them. Head over to the rest tent to enjoy live music. Then find out what over 100 arts and craft vendors have available for sale.
Cheer as the new Strawberry Queen is crowned. Experience the midway rides. Taste foods from around the world. The fun keeps going after the sun sets, so bring lawn chairs and enjoy the fireworks on Thursday and Friday.” – mattituckstrawberryfestival.org
