The Southold Holiday Candlelight Tour of this North Fork Hamlet’s historic district will be held as always on the Friday afternoon following Thanksgiving. A stroll around the dozen or more festively decorated buildings is just the thing to work off some of that turkey dinner and get into the holiday spirit. The tour is sponsored each year by Southold Historical Society.
Southold Historic Houses and Lighthouse
The Society owns and maintains over a dozen buildings in Southold. They are concentrated on Main Street and the corner of Maple Lane, and two other sites operated by the Society including Horton’s Point Lighthouse. The buildings open for the Candlelight Holiday Tour range in date from 1750 to 1900 and include several houses, barns, outbuildings, and commercial structures.
Holiday Candlelight Tour: Location and Times
The Holiday Candlelight tour location is the Museum grounds on the Main Road opposite the Firehouse, east of Maple Lane and lasts from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Friday November 29, 2013. The annual tree lighting at 5:00 p.m. will be accompanied by caroling led by the Southold High School Chorus Ensemble. This is a must see on my holiday calendar and there is no admission charge, although donations towards upkeep are happily accepted. My guests will also enjoy being part of history, as the Shorecrest Bed and Breakfast, built in the 1860’s fits right into the historical theme of the weekend. Visit my website for special offers for a weekend stay including free tickets to the Cutchogue Holiday House tour which takes place the next day or Shellabration happening the same weekend in Greenport village
