59th Annual Strawberry Festival – June 13th-16th, 2013

dsc_3830dsc_4148Bring your family and friends to one of the North Fork’s best summer festivals in the height of the strawberry season.

“By late June on the North Fork the strawberry crop is reaching its peak and bursting with flavor. On Father’s Day weekend, at the peak of the strawberry harvest, the Mattituck Lions Club brings the community together for a special weekend of fun and purpose. Whether you’re here year-round, are a seasonal resident or are drawn here by the Festival, you’re in for a wonderful time while raising money for local non-profits.

Dig into the strawberry shortcake, sample the strawberries dipped in chocolate, try the strawberries any way you like them. Head over to the rest tent to enjoy live music.  Then find out what over 100 arts and craft vendors have available for sale.

Cheer as the new Strawberry Queen is crowned.  Experience the midway rides. Taste foods from around the world. The fun keeps going after the sun sets, so bring lawn chairs and enjoy the fireworks on Thursday and Friday.” – mattituckstrawberryfestival.org

If you can manage a quick mid week getaway Shorecrest still has a couple of rooms available on the 12th and 13th with a 20% discount on a 2 night stay, 10% on one night – to use towards the price of your ticket!

Jazz on the Vine is the theme for this years Long Island Winterfest event which kicks off this weekend with the first of a three event series of one-hour talks presented by the East End Arts Council at locations in Greenport, Southampton and Riverhead.

The series launches at 1pm on Saturday February 12 at Brecknock Hall in Greenport with internationally renowned saxophonist David Liebman; author, scholar and pianist Dr. Lewis Porter and hosted by trombonist Ray Anderson. They will be discussing the recordings of John Coltrane in ‘Trane’s Travels: Giant Steps to Ascension’, and demonstrating musical examples by performing them in the elegant surroundings of Brecknock Hall.

Wineries throughout the North Fork will be hosting musical talent each weekend. Below is a calendar of the events taking place.  For maps of the locations visit the Area Attractions page of the Shorecrest Bed and Breakfast web site and click on the Vineyards map page tab; to learn more about the musicians who will be performing visit the East End Arts Council musicians page for a complete list of performers and links to their own websites:
