Welcome to Shorecrest B&B on the North Fork of Long Island!

We were contemplating our next post about all the gardens on the property and around the area when a light bulb clicked. We never formally introduced ourselves. So…Hi! We are Shorecrest Bed & Breakfast an elegant yet modern Victorian B&B located on the North Fork of Long Island. Welcome to paradise.

A little history about our roots: Shorecrest Bed & Breakfast was once the summer home of a wealthy doctor when it was first built in the 1800’s. The elegance and opulence of the Victorian era still live throughout the house and it’s decor (for all you Gatsby lovers). The Inn overlooks the Long Island Sound and has access to two private beaches. The house is a gem on the North fork but the North fork is the gem of Long Island. The North Fork is home to a unique type of culture. The wineries, the farmstands, the beaches, the wharf towns, the history and the fantasy all come together to create this beautiful oasis right outside of the city. It’s only 2 hours from New York City and offers you an experience you wouldn’t think possible so close to NYC. The Farm-to-Table culture is present in many restaurants on the North Fork and the Wineries offer relaxing and entertaining day excursions. If the weather permits, GO SWIMMING!

The Shorecrest Garden, a pleasure to enjoy all season

Shorecrest Bed and Breakfast Pond in June

Past visitors know the gardens here well and can depend on there being something different to see each time they visit. The flower borders are planted with perennials which are planned to flower sequentially. Astilbes are in full bloom now, as the first flowering of the landscape knockout roses and Nepata (Cat mint) is past its prime, and they have been cut back to gather energy for another flowering in a couple of weeks. The white hydrangeas are looking marvelous, the blues that line the front walk should start to bloom soon, and several different varieties of lilies will continue to flower throughout the summer, along with hosta, Rucbeckia or Black Eyed Susan ( of which there are literally thousands in the 25 ft x 200 ft border that lines the road)  Perovskia, Montauk daisies, Sedum and to keep color when the perennials are resting a variety of annuals that continue to flower until frost.

I hope to welcome you for an impromptu tour of this little slice of heaven soon!
