Welcome to Shorecrest B&B on the North Fork of Long Island!

We were contemplating our next post about all the gardens on the property and around the area when a light bulb clicked. We never formally introduced ourselves. So…Hi! We are Shorecrest Bed & Breakfast an elegant yet modern Victorian B&B located on the North Fork of Long Island. Welcome to paradise.

A little history about our roots: Shorecrest Bed & Breakfast was once the summer home of a wealthy doctor when it was first built in the 1800′s. The elegance and opulence of the Victorian era still live throughout the house and it’s decor (for all you Gatsby lovers). The Inn overlooks the Long Island Sound and has access to two private beaches. The house is a gem on the North fork but the North fork is the gem of Long Island. The North Fork is home to a unique type of culture. The wineries, the farmstands, the beaches, the wharf towns, the history and the fantasy all come together to create this beautiful oasis right outside of the city. It’s only 2 hours from New York City and offers you an experience you wouldn’t think possible so close to NYC. The Farm-to-Table culture is present in many restaurants on the North Fork and the Wineries offer relaxing and entertaining day excursions. If the weather permits, GO SWIMMING!

A look inside Shorecrest Bed & Breakfast:

The Rose Room

Enjoy the comfort and elegance of a queen size canopied four poster bed, a nineteenth century antique armoire, mirrors and dresser, ornate fireplace under 10 foot molded ceilings. Two large windows overlook the garden and water view of the Arshamomoque inlet of Shelter Bay in a park like setting to the South and West. The newly renovated attached bathroom features a 6 foot jacuzzi tub with shower.

The West Room

Three floor to ceiling windows overlook views of the Long Island Sound and spectacular sunsets to the west. The color theme of soft blues and beige, 19 century prints, antique mirrors and furnishings plus fine linens and a top of the line mattress complete the mix of comfort and old world charm. A working fire housed in a vintage style iron stove is a cozy addition for cool nights and a flat screen TV with premium cable and newly renovated bathroom complete the modern amenities our guests expect in a luxury Inn. This room has light curtains, does not have room darkening shades and is the brightest room in the Inn.

The East Room

The Southwest Room

Sunsets over the Long Island Sound to the West bathe this room in a rosy glow each evening. The decorative theme is the Victorian Traveler in Asia. Wine colored shantung silk drapes, an intricately carved four-poster ‘rice’ bed and an eclectic mix of antique 19C furniture, prints and textiles complete the theme. A flat screen TV, premium cable and newly en suite renovated bathroom complete the modern amenities our guests expect in a luxury Inn.

The Best Bed and Breakfast in New York

A Walk on the Beach

The very best that New York has to offer in Bed and Breakfast or hotel accommodations is not in New York City.  In fact, as far as a bed & breakfast goes, you won’t find many within the concrete jungle that have the same access to the great outdoors, serenity and beauty of New York’s Long Island and the waters of the Atlantic Ocean that surround it.  Many of New York’s state’s most beautiful spaces and natural wonders are however just a short car ride from the city.

The Shorecrest bed & breakfast is known in many circles as the single most beautiful, centrally located, and relaxing country style inn in the state.  Certainly the miles of pristine beaches, acres of farmland and close proximity to Orient Point State Park, Shelter Island , the Arshamomaque inlet and preserve, the Audubon headquarters and preserve and other parks and wildlife refuges have added to the allure of this location.

Not only does the Shorecrest offer world class four course dining experience with the gourmet breakfast served in the elegant formal dining room each morning but also difficult to top customer service.
For those of you looking for a unique and elegant wine tasting experience, the Shorecrest lies at the very heart of Long Island’s wine country, with literally dozens of vineyards, wineries, and tasting rooms within a 30 minute ride.  The inn is conveniently located near Highway 25 and route 48, the main Long Island wine country thoroughfares.  You’ll have the opportunity to spend a weekend tasting some of the east coasts most delicious and complex vino while retiring to the beauty of a one acre estate of extensive perennial gardens and adjacent beaches.

If you are looking for a quiet, cozy getaway with room to explore the natural settings and beautiful landscapes in the area, the Shorecrest bed & breakfast is the perfect destination.  Bike and kayak rentals are available not far from the inn and along with that slower pace you’ll find yourself swept back to another time where life moved more slowly,  and you can savor the company of friends and loved ones.

Even if you’re looking for a unique combination of country living and metropolitan comforts, the Shorecrest bed & breakfast is the place to come.  There are spectacular restaurants and shopping opportunities only minutes away.  And what better way to relax after a hard day’s shopping and dining than in your own hammock, on the beach or contemplating the fish and frogs in the ornamental pond?  The Shorecrest really puts the best of both worlds at your fingertips, offering you both luxury and a beautiful rustic setting.

The Shorecrest B&B also offers photographers and artists a wonderful opportunity to visit and capture some of rural Long Island’s most picturesque and beautiful sights.  The nearby horse farms and fields give you an excellent opportunity to find out exactly what New York looked and felt like long ago while you photograph or just absorb the natural beauty of the area.  The innkeeper is knowledgeable about the area and more than happy to help you build a customized walking, driving, peddling, or paddling tour and will be sure to point you in the right direction when it comes to the sights and attractions you want to see and  experience.  The Shorecrest Bed & Breakfast is truly a New York State gem located conveniently close to the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple.  But don’t let its close proximity to the city fool you, once you are here it’s very easy to peel back the layers of your fast-paced life and begin to let your spirit rest easy, inspired by the pastoral beauty of this pastoral setting.

The Shorecrest Garden, a pleasure to enjoy all season

Shorecrest Bed and Breakfast Pond in June

Past visitors know the gardens here well and can depend on there being something different to see each time they visit. The flower borders are planted with perennials which are planned to flower sequentially. Astilbes are in full bloom now, as the first flowering of the landscape knockout roses and Nepata (Cat mint) is past its prime, and they have been cut back to gather energy for another flowering in a couple of weeks. The white hydrangeas are looking marvelous, the blues that line the front walk should start to bloom soon, and several different varieties of lilies will continue to flower throughout the summer, along with hosta, Rucbeckia or Black Eyed Susan ( of which there are literally thousands in the 25 ft x 200 ft border that lines the road)  Perovskia, Montauk daisies, Sedum and to keep color when the perennials are resting a variety of annuals that continue to flower until frost.

I hope to welcome you for an impromptu tour of this little slice of heaven soon!
