North Fork Wine Tastings for Fun and Education

October 28th, 2018 by Abigail Field

The North Fork boasts some 30 vineyards, and wine tastings are a favorite activity for visitors. Some aren’t very wine focused, mostly a chance to sip otherwise unavailable wine while enjoying live music or entertainment. But some vineyards offer a much deeper experience.

Below are some of Shorecrest’s favorite special wine tastings for you to consider, including some November-only opportunities: The Founder’s Tour at Borghese, Winemaker for a Day at Sannino, Champagne and Caviar at Pindar, and Barrel Tastings at Paumanok. Note: all require prior reservations and tickets, so plan this part of your itinerary when you book your stay with us.

Borghese Wine Tastings: Winemaker’s Walk & Tour

Castello di Borghese  is the North Fork’s founding vineyard, originally known as Hargraves. With a Bordeaux-style microclimate, it is one of the few vineyards to offer a superb pinot noir. Every Saturday throughout the fall–if you make reservations at least 24 hours in advance–you can take the Winemaker’s Walk & Tour, a guided tour of the winery and production facility, followed by a wine tasting.

Located on the North Road in Cutchogue, Borghese is very convenient from Shorecrest.

Sannino Bella Vita: Be a Winemaker for a Day

Sannino’s three hour class is about much more than wine tasting—you get to blend your own bottle of wine! Offered roughly once a month, the fall dates are November 25 and December 16.  Advanced tickets required.

Pindar in November: Champagne, Chopin & Caviar

As it has for years, every Saturday and Sunday in November, Pindar offers a special champagne tour:

“demonstrating the last stages in making Champagne. Watch us complete the “méthode champenoise” process. See us disgorge, dosage, cork, wire net the bottles in preparation for the Holiday season. Enjoy a glass of our Cuvee Rare Champagne and hors d’oeuvres.”

Again, advance reservations and tickets required.

Paumanok in November: Futures and Barrel Tastings

On the Saturdays and Sundays of the first three weekends of November, Paumanok Vineyards offers tours of its wine cellars and uncorks barrels for wine tastings. The winemaker explains what each wine is, and how developed it is. Sip, nibble the cheese they pair it with, and get all your questions answered.
