The Manor dates to the 1650’s, and offers an interesting range of events, including guided house tours and special exhibits, not-to-be-missed Creekside Concerts, and Shakespeare–this year, Romeo and Juliet. Be sure to check out this fascinating place as part of your Shorecrest stay.

Manor Tours and the Special Exhibit: A Place in Pictures

Every Thursday and Saturday in July and August, explore the Manor House and view A Place in Pictures from 11 am to 3 pm. This amazing exhibit showcases photographs and paintings of life at Sylvester Manor.

From the invention of photography in 1839, Professor Eben N. Horsford (a Manor resident) was fascinated with it. He opened the first Daguerreotype studio in Albany in 1841 and kept up with new technological developments. He and his family sat for numerous studio portraits utilizing new methods, from Tintypes to Carte de Vistes and Cabinet Cards to the use of glass negatives and paper prints. Most of the Horsfords photos, however, are from their Manor time.

Even without the exhibit, exploring the Manor is a back-in-time treat. Be sure to leave time for strolling the beautiful grounds too.
